International Journal of Plant Production (IJPP), a peer reviewed research journal, is published by Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (GUASNR) in yearly volumes of four issues. Special issues devoted to single topics are also published.
The dramatic increases in population and living standards have led to serious concerns over the food production and sustainability and environmental impact of modem agriculture. In the future, more food must be produced on less land. On the other hand, irrespective of huge development and basic research in plant molecular biology and plant biotechnology in recent years, application of the findings to problem solving in plant production has been very slow. Much effort is needed in this regard.
Rapid production of scientific knowledge and technology transfer is required to meet world food demand. International journals do play important role in this aspect by publishing timely, relevant and cutting-edge research results. Regarding this point and the growing community of plant production scientists and increasing number of manuscripts submitted to international journals, Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (www.gau.ac.ir), Gorgan, Iran, on its 50th anniversary (in 2007), launched International Journal of Plant Production (www.ijpp.info) to have a share in scientific production at international level.
